Frequently Asked Questions

My son/daughter has been dancing for years and has had a lot of training. Should he/she take Dance 1 or        Dance 2?
Excellent Question. Studio training and other training is very beneficial and has a great focus on technique and the different genres of dance as a whole. Dance 1 encompasses the elements of dance, technique, choreography, meaning in dance and vocabulary. Dance 2 adds onto these principles learned in Dance 1 and develops a stronger and deeper knowledge. I recommend taking Dance 1 first to understand the principles of dance and then continue you onto Dance 2.

My son/daughter would like to audition for Dance Company next year. What can he/she be doing to

increase their chance of making the team?
Take class from me.  When you are in class with me and I am aware of your intentions, I can be watching you and working with you to help you improve.  Work with your student at home. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Do you offer extra credit?

No. This is a simple 'A' class. If you come to class, participate fully, do the work and perform at the concert, you should have no need to worry about your grade or even need Extra Credit.

You mentioned that I need to see a Dance Concert, what does that mean?

You are required to see a LIVE Dance concert. It must be live! You can't watch something online or tv/movie and count that as a critique. It needs to be live! It also must be a DANCE concert. It does you no good in your dance class to do a critique on a singing concert or orchestra concert, etc. If you want more details on the assignment, see the "Concert Critique" tab. If you want a list of concerts to attend, see the "Concerts around us" tab.
