                 Dance 2:

       Technique & Theory

Description of Dance 2
Dance is a universal language, an expressive and vibrant art with the capacity to unify the physical, mental, social, emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual. This intermediate level dance course builds dance knowledge and skills in technique, improvisation, choreography, artistic expression, performance, history, culture, life skills, and connections to other curricular areas.

Explanation of Standards
The Utah Dance Core Curriculum embodies the universal principles and language of dance as an art form, and encourages awareness of body movement and its creative potential for communicating meaning and self-expression. By creating, performing, and responding to dance, students address dance education goals which are divided into four dance standards: Technique, Elements of Dance, Creative/Choreographic Processes, and Meaning. Technology requirements for this class include audio and visual recording/playback equipment and percussion instruments.

Absent Make Up Work:

Because of the nature of this class, participation is where most points come from.  This includes being on time, dressing in appropriate dance class attire, participation in discussion, dancing full-out, answering questions, etc.

Each student will receive 4 points per day.

Tardy = 2/4
Not dressing out (hair, socks, clothes, etc) = 2/4
Chewing gum = 3/4
Behavior or choosing not to participate
(up to teacher discretion)

Skill Based Classroom

4 = Mastery, 3 = Approaching Mastery, 2 = Developing, 1 = Novice

If a student is missing for any reason, even school excused absences, student will receive a zero (0) in participation for the day he/she is missing. To receive credit, student must attend a master dance class with Miss Harwood. These master dance classes will take place once a month during SUPER ZAP or on another Monday depending on the term.

*Make sure you use every opportunity to make up those points.
